The 'Daily News', St. John's, Nfld., Monday, March 11th, announced the death of G.G. Crosbie. He was the brother of the well known plastere of Chatham, N.B., John CROSBIE. The 'News' says: Last night about 9 o'clock, George Graham CROSBIE, the genial proprietor of the Central Hotel passed from time to eternity after a short but painful illness. Mr. Crosbie was a native of Dumfries, Scotland, when ce his family went to Chatham, N.B. from which place he came to this country 37 years ago, settling first at Harbor Grace as a plasterer, afterwards at Brigus, where for many years, in addition to his former occupation, he carried on a mercantile concern with considerable success. Times became somewhat dull. Mr. Crosbie came to St. John's in the year 1885, buying that famous old hostilrie, Knight's Home. . The Knight's Home, or as he afterwards called it, the Central Hotel, became very popular. In 1892 the hotel fell victim in a fire, and for a time things looked very unpromising, especially as Mr. Crosbie's farm house, some miles from the city, caught fire days later, leaving him without shelter and a heavy loser from the double conflagration. With characteristic energy, Mr. Crosbie secured premises in George Street. The new Central Hotel was built quite recently and has only been occupied a couple of months. A few days ago illness seized upon him, serious complications ensued, trouble in the throat arose ay at 9 p.m. Sunday, March 10th, George Crosbie exchanged mortality for the larger life.
