Amherst Press - It is our painful duty today to chronicle the death of Mr. Robb. Mr. Robb was a native of Cumberland, having been born at Leicester on 4th March 1827. His parents, Alexander ROBB and Annie BROWN were natives of Ireland and settled in Nova Scotia many years ago. The deceased was only 8 years old when he came to Amherst and received his education in the public schools. After leaving school he acquired a knowledge of the tine and sheet metal businessIn 1848 he commenced business on his own account and was among the first to introduce a cast iron stove into the country. In 1856 he built the foundry and machine shop at Amherst. He assisted in the development of Boot & Shoe Company and in 1872 he was a promoter of the Springhill colliers. He was one of the original members of the Amherst Division of Sons of Temperance. He was an advocate of Confederation. The deceased was upwards of 30 years a member of the Presbyterian Church. In 1886 he married Emeline LOGAN d/o David D. LOGAN, Amherst Point. His surviving children are David W. ROBB and Frank B. ROBB, who have managed the business of firm A. Robb & Sons since 1873. Walter R. ROBB, who has charge of the retail establishment, Aubrey G. ROBB and Maggie A. ROBB, wife of Rev. D. McGREGOR. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon.
