Charles HAZEN, Esq. who died at Musquash on Monday eve. was a son of William HAZEN, Esq., Sheriff of Saint John and Provincial Treasurer who died in 1816. The grandfather of Charles Hazen, Hon. William Hazen, arrived at Portland Point (St. John) from Newburyport in 1775 with his family and was many years a partner with James SIMONDS and James WHITE. At the organization of New Brunswick in 1784 he was appointed member of the council. He died 1814 at the age of 75 years. His youngest daughter married 1805 Charles DRURY, Esq., an officer in one of H.M. Regiments. She died in 1862. Col. Drury died at Newlandsin 1836 in his 54th year. He was at one time Post Master of St. John and Registrar of Deeds and Wills. His eldest son, Col. Charles Drury, whose interment took place on Tuesday and Charles Hazen were grandsons of Hon. William Hazen. Charles Hazen married a daughter of Col. George ANDERSON of Musquash. He will be interred in the Rural Cemetery (now Fernhill Cemetery).
