The older citizens of St. John and Portland were grieved to hear of the death of Bradford S. GILBERT at his residence yesterday. Mr. Gilbert was the eldest s/o late Henry GILBERT and was born in April, 1814 at the old homestead, located on the present site of the Pugsley building, Princess St., Saint John. He was educated for mercantile life and, with Thomas GILBERT and with three other brothers, carried on an extensive business; but mechanial employments were more to his taste. During the later years of life, Gilbert retired from business and lived on the Marsh road. For several terms he was member of the Portland Council. Six brothers survive him. His wife, nee Miss HANFORD of this city, died about 13 years ago, leaving one child, a lady of age 16.
