Between 9 and 10 o'clock, Sunday night, three sailors named John GRAHAM, John OWEN and John SIMPSON who had been drinking in a tavern at the lower end of Duke St. (St. John) quarrelled among themselves and a fight ensued in the street near the new Custom House when GRAHAM who was opposed to the other two, was stabbed by one of them near the heart and died shortly afterwards. An inquest was held Monday before His Worship the Mayor and James Gallagher, Esq. J.P. It was stated at the inquest that when SIMPSON heard that GRAHAM was dead, he was seen to throw something into an adjoining yard and a knife has been said to have been found in the direction indicated.
