John McCREADY, an old resident of Penobsquis (Kings Co.) died at that place Sunday last. He was the youngest s/o late William McCREADY who, with his two brothers, Caleb McCREADY and John McCREADY came to St. John with the Loyalists in 1783. William McCREADY, after living some years at Upham, where he married, removed to Upper Sussex, now Penobsquis about the beginning of the present century. John McCready, whose demise is referred to, followed farming in which he was highly successful. He home was always a hospitable one, an obliging neighbor and easy creditor to those who had need to borrow. He was twice married, first to Mary FREEZE, by whom he leaves three children, Mrs. H.N. COATES of St. John city, Mrs. Charles L. McCREADY, now in the Northwest and Mr. Edwin J. McCREADY who resides on the homestead at Penobsquis. His second wife, formerly Miss Sarah SHERWOOD of Upham, survives him. The funeral of the deceased took place on Tuesday. Rev. G.W. McDonald, assisted by Rev. E.C. Corey conducted the services.
