The "Chesapeake" Affair - The sudden disappearance of George WADE from the Brighton District last Tuesday morn. has given rise to no little comment. The Wade who aided in the capture of the "Chesapeake" is a native of St. John, N.B. ... Wade's son, whose name is George is 26 years old and for many years has followed the business of a variety performer on stage under the name of George AUSTIN. He considered the story coupling his father with the George Wade of Chesapeake fame as an outrageous fabrication. His father, he said, was born in St. John and came from one of the original families who settled in the place. 'During the war', he said 'my father followed the business of logging or working in the mills and about the time of the Chesapeake affair (1863) was logging up the Canaan River. He was born in that part of the town known as lower Loch Lomond. During the war he also worked a part of the time in Drury's mill. That father should leave as he did was rather unfortunate for the family, but I am sure that his departure is not in the least due to his supposed connection with the "Chesapeake" affair. On Monday last, with the intention some time previously expressed, he got ten day's leave of absence from the car shops with the object of visiting a married sister, Mrs. Jonathan TITUS living at Bangor, Maine who is quite ill.
