The last issue of 'Bay Pilot' contain a notice of the life and death of Col. David MOWATT who breathed his last at his residence at Beech Hill, St. Andrews (Charlotte Co.) 16th inst. Col. Mowatt was one of the oldest residents of the county. He held a commission in the Charlotte Co. militia inthe year 1812 and was colonel of the 4th Batt. in 1837 and was in active service during the so-called Aroostock war. He became a member of the Charlotte Co. Agricultural Society immediately after its formation. He was for a number of years elder of the Greenoch Presbyterian Church is the shire town. In early life he married Miss WYER d/o late Capt. Thos. WYER. She died in January 1869. Of their family there are now surviving George MOWATT who occupies the family homestead, David MOWATT of Ashland, Wisconsin; Mrs. Sydney J. McMASTERS of St. Andrews and Susan MOWATT now of San Francisco, California. Colonel Mowatt's remains were interred in the Rural Cemetery at St. Andrews.
