The young woman, Barbara DUKE, who was to have been married to Wm H. GOVE the other day and was deserted by her prospective husband at the last moment, is well known in St. John. She was brought up in the family of the late Dr. Rufus PALMER of Riverside (Albert Co.). Then she came to St. John and was a nurse in the family of Chas. A. PALMER. She lived with them several years. Miss Duke was subject to several attacks of illness.
