Mayor Thorne received a letter today from S.W. Philbrick of the Kennebec Log Driving Co., Skowhegan, Maine, stating that John SPELLMAN, formerly of Saint John, was drowned at Skowhegan on Friday last while at work on the logs. Enquiries by a Globe reporter developed the fact that the deceased was the son of Thomas SPELLMAN and was a young unmarried man known in St. John.
