A terrible accident occurred yesterday morn. whereby Daniel O'NEILL, a youth about 17 years of age, lost his life. He with his brother had been boarding with Mrs. BYRNE, No. 21 Clarence St. and they occupied the upper flat of the house. O'Neill had been ill for some time past and was being treated for slow fever. He went to bed early Monday night and about 3 o'clock James McHALE, who lives in the lower flat of the house, heard a noise in the yard. He ran to the spot and found the boy lying on his back near one of the basement windows. He was unconscious and died about 4 o'clock. He was a son of Patrick O'NEILL who died about ten years ago at Melbourne, Australia, in which place the boy was born. His mother and remainder of family live Moncton. Coroner Earle was notified and an inquest was held yesterday afternoon. Testimonies of Mary BYRNE - The deceased, Daniel O'Neill, had only been here for about three months on a visit to his brother. He was about 17 years of age; James McHALE - I am a sailor and married man. James McMANUS, teamster (see original)
