George MORRIS was waylaid and most brutally beaten by three ruffians on the night of Monday week, a short distance from the shipyard in Chatham (North. Co.) He now lies in a very dangerous state. Three persons have been taken up on suspicion, but one of them, through the carelessness or neglect of the constable in whose custody he was placed, succeeded in making his escape. The other two are in safe keeping in the Jail in Newcastle. The poor man has a wife and large family depending on his labor for support.
