The death is announced of Andrew GILMOUR, which occurred yesterday at his residence Duke St., St. John. From the time of his arrival in St. John until the great fire (June 20th, 1877), Mr. Gilmour was a member of the Germain street Methodist church and since that time he was connected with the Queen Square church, being a member of the quarterly board and a teacher in the Sabbath school. Mr. Gilmour was born in the north of Ireland and came here in 1830. He served his time with Wm A. ROBERTSON, who carried on a large business as a tailor on Dock street. He then went to the U.S. where he remained for a couple of years. On his return to St. John, Mr. Gilmour entered the employ of Mr. Gilmour as foreman. He began business for himself on Market Square about the year 1840 and also did a large tailoring business. The store of Mr. Gilmour on Germain street has of late years been frequented by many of the oldest and most prominent members of the Methodist church, who spent hours there discussing old times. Mr. Gilmour married a daughter of of the late William BRUNDAGE. Mrs. Gilmour survives him, as do three children. Arthur GILMOUR, Mrs. C. SPENCER and Mrs. John ARMSTRONG. Mr. Gilmour was a member of St. John lodge, F.& A.M. and was also an Oddfellow.
