The community was shocked Saturday to hear of the death of Claude M. LAMB which occurred that day at Colorado Springs, Colorado whither he had gone some months before for the benefit of his health. His wife died but a short time ago, leaving him with two little children to care for. Since his illness, the children have been tenderly looked after by their relatives in St. Andrews (Charlotte Co.) The deceased was an expert accountant. The deceased was the second s/o Andrew LAMB and Jane LAMB. He was born in Robbinston, Maine in 1855 and was educated in St. Andrews Grammar School under Rev. R.E. Smith, now rector of St. George. In 1869 he entered the stores dept. of the N.B.& C.R.R. Co. as clerk. His aptitude for railway work gained him rapid promotion. He soon rose to a clerkship in the office of the manager, Henry OSBURN, and was afterwards appointed chief clerk in the cashier's office. In 1874 he was appointed station agent at St. Andrews. Later he was given charge of Woodstock station. When the railway administration changed Mr. Lamb resigned and entered into a business partnership with John GRAHAM at Woodstock, the firm being known as Lamb & Graham. A longing to re-enter railway life led to his retirement from the firm. He went west and secured the position of Audit Clerk in the general offices of the Atchison, Topeka & Sante Fe Railway at Topeka, Kansas. He afterwards became auditor for the Fitzgerald & Mallory Construction Co. at Charlton, Iowa. He was then appointed auditor of the Pan American Construction Co. at Corpus Christi, Texas with which company he remained until failing health compelled him to resign and seek improvement at Denver, Colorado where he remained several months. The deceased was married to Miss Annie STEVENSON d/o late James STEVENSON. She died about a year and a half ago. The remains were brought here for interment.
