Hopewell Hill (Albert Co.) Dec. 24 - Although the report at first received in regard to the loss of the "Magellan" was to the effect that the crew was saved, the sad intelligence was received later that William MAHER, seaman of Hopewell Hill and Thomas LANDRY of Hopewell Cape, mate, were lost. Mr. Maher was a native of Nova Scotia and had been living in Hopewell for about 12 years. He was about 45 years of age and leaves a wife and eight children. Mr. Landry was about the same age and leaves no family. His wife died a few weeks ago while her husband was absent on what has proved his last voyage. The telegram received from Capt. DIXON stated that the "Magellan" struck on a sandbar 30 miles from Newport News. (see also SUN Dec. 28, 1892 - Capt. Dixon tells of the wreck of the schooner "Magellan")
