On Wednesday morn., shortly after 2 o'clock, John Coffin WINSLOW passed peacefully away after three weeks illness of heamorrhage of the brain. The first severe attack was on Sunday 30th ult. and was accompanied by violent pain in the head. He recovered from that sufficiently to attend to his duties until Saturday morn. when he grew worse and became unconscious. The best medical aid was summoned and a consultation was held by Dr. Murray MacLaren of St. John with Dr. Nevers of Houlton and Drs. Rankine and Sprague of Woodstock., but human aid was unavailing to do not but give temporary relief. He became quite conscious, however, and retained his mental faculties up to within a short time of his death. Mr. Winslow was in his 70th year and was Postmaster nearly 23 years, having received his appointment in February 1873. He was a barrister-at-law and for many years was registrar of probates, which he held at the time of his death. His great-grandfather was Lt. Col. Edward WINSLOW who died at Halifax about 100 years ago and who was a direct descendant of Edward Winslow, the first Governor of Plymouth, Mass. His son, Judge Edward Winslow (the first judge in N.B. by royal appointment) lived at Kingswood at Kingsclear (York Co.). His son and the father of the deceased, John Francis Wentworth WINSLOW was the first High Sheriff of Carleton Co. The subject of this sketch was married in 1859 to Charlotte Lusby O'DONNELL of Amherst, N.S., who survives him. The surviving children are J. Norman W. WINSLOW, barrister-at-law; Mrs. J. Alfred ROBERT, Montreal; Mrs. Ernest A. SJOSTEDT, Bridgeville and Miss Pauline WINSLOW. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon 2 o'clock.
