Shawano Journal - Capt. S.P. McNICHOL, whose funeral took place from the house of his son, T.H. McNICHOL on Friday 11th inst., Rev. J.V. Hughes of the Presbyterian church officiating, died at his home in Antigo, Jan. 9. Capt. McNichol was born in St. George (Charlotte Co.) April 8, 1812 of Scottish parentage. His father fought in a Highland regiment on the side of Great Britain during the war of the Revolution while his paternal grandfather was a lieutenant in the patriot army. He followed the sea from boyhood and was considered a skilful and daring seaman. She was shipwrecked twice suffering great hardships on both occasions, but through his presence of mind saving his crews. The last time he visited the West Indies, he had an attack of yellow fever and lay for some time in the hospital at Clenfuegos, Cuba; soon after which he abandoned the sea and engaged in other occupations. He professed religion early in life and united with the Baptist church in his native place of which denomination he remained a consistent member until his death. Capt. McNichol was united in marriage Nov. 21, 1842 to Margaret MAGEE second d/o late Rev. Thomas MAGEE of New Brunswick. Capt. McNichol left four children, three sons and a daughter.
