'A Pilot's Story' - 'Saves, thank God and able to go home' sent by James McPARTLAND to his family in St. John and to them the message must have seemed as though sent by one risen from the dead, for he had for days been given up. Mr. McPartland is what is known as a 'branch pilot' of St. John and some two weeks ago took out a schooner. The weather was not very favorable when they sailed, but Mr. Partland thought that he could go back without difficulty and after reaching the ordinary limit of pilot srvice, made the attempt. He failed, and instead of making port, was driven out to sea. (see original)
