Chatham 'Advance' - Although the death of Charles SARGENT was not unexpected, the announcement of the event having taken place at 7 o'clock last Sunday morn. was received with regret. He was the son of the late Moses SARGENT, a merchant of Newcastle who was also, for a long time, treasurer of Northumberland Co. and was in his 62nd year. Mr. Sargent and Ex. Sheriff MITCHELL were owners of the present Burchill mill property, which they had purchased from the estate of the late Robinson Crocker and worked for a good many year, until they sold it to Mr. BURCHILL. Mr. Sargent then erected a mill near his residence which he has run ever since and has thus established one of the most valuable milling interests on the Miramichi. He has held the office of Dominion Indian commissioner for New Brunswick for more than 21 years; has been continuously a vestryman of St. Paul's church since 1870, vice president of the Northumberland Agriculatural society; president and director, respectively of the Newcastle and Chatham Driving Park associations, besides holding other prominent positions. He first married Miss Frances HARLEY d/o late John HARLEY, who was the leading shipbuilder of his time on the Miramichi. His second marriage was with Miss Josephine BURCHILL d/o George BURCHILL and sister of Hon. John P. BURCHILL, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of N.B. She, together with his sons, John SARGENT and Charles SARGENT, survive him. (see eulogy)
