William GAINES, one of the oldest residents of Westmorland Co., died at Moncton, Monday eve. and was buried in the Fox Creek Catholic cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Gaines was over 90 years of age and quite blind. He was the father of a large family including Michael GAINES at Berry's Mills and the late Widow EVANS who died suddenly some months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Gaines could relate incidents with the Miramichi Fire (1825) as vividly as though it only occurred a few days ago. Mr. Gaines emigrated from Ireland many years ago and used often to state he believed he would live to be nearly 100 years old, as he said he belonged to a family remarkable for their longevity. - 'Transcript'
