About 12 o'clock Wednesday night last while John TUCKER and a man named BARRETT were crossing from this Town to Robbinston, Maine in a small sail boat, the wind blowing fresh from the southward, the sail gibed and upset the boat throwing the men out of it. They succeeded however in getting hold of the gunwale. Their cries were heard from the shore and James CURTAIN and James COBLEY immediately put off to their assistance, but it was some time before they reached them as the night was so foggy and a high wind that they could only row in the direction from which they heard the sound and before they had reached the unfortunate men, we are sorry to state, that one of them, John Tucker, let go his hold and met withn a watery grave. The other person Barrett was almost speechless when they reached the boat and it was with difficulty that they unlocked the grasp which he had taken on the gunwale. They towed the boat to the shore and Curtain took Barrett to his house and treated him in the most humane manner. Tucker was a native of Ireland and has left a wife and child to lament their loss.
