John McCANN, Thomas McCANN, Joseph PORTER, Peter SCALLION, Thomas SLEEP and Walter EDWARDS crossed the Kennebecasis from Chapel Grove to Drury Cove this morn. and had a startling experience. The ice only formed three days ago and no one had previously attempted to cross it. When about half way across, the party came upon thin ice and the sled upon which John McCANN, an elderly gentleman, was drawn went through and he was followed into the water by his son Thomas McCANN, Mr. Porter, Mr. Sleep and Mr. Scallion. All were rescued after remaining some time in the water and taken to Drury Cove, but the McCanns and Mr. Porter were so much exhausted that they were unable to proceed further.
