The ancestros of Hon. O.J. LEBLANC were natives of Normandy and emigrated to Acadia in the old days of French power in this region. They were among those who were afterwards scattered by order of the British government in 1755, but returned again and settled at Memramcook. The subject of this sketch is the son of Joseph LEBLANC by his wife Victorie B. GIROUARD and was born at Memramcook Nov. 27th, 1830. His father was a farmer and the young man was self educated. He too entered upon life as a farmer with marked success. He removed from his native place to Kent Co. where he still resides in the flourishing parish of St. Mary's. In the year 1882, Mr. LeBlanc was induced to stand as candidate for a seat in the House of Assembly and was elected. A protest being entered by his opponents he resigned. The by-election followed in September of the same year resulted in his re-election. At the general elections of 1886 and 1890 he was also returned, thus holding the seat until 1891 when he resigned to contest the county for a seat in the parliament of Canada. His opponent won the seat. On March 11th of the same year he was appointed to the Legislative Council. From 1889 to 1891, Hon. LeBlanc was a member of the Executive Council. This he resigned when he entered the federal contest. On Nov. 17th, 1854, Hon. LeBlanc married Olive J. CORMIER, Buctouche.
