In February 1887, a big storm occurred. Polling was Tuesday 22nd, the storm commencing on Wednesday night. Mrs. Ann PORTER, formerly Ann GIVEN, lived at the time about five miles back of Gagetown village (Queens Co.) on the road leading to Nerepis with one William ALLEN. During the latter part of the week referred to, she left Allen's, it was supposed, to visit some friends two or three miles away, but not returning, inquiry was made to her whereabouts, but without avail. Then the neighbours became uneasy and made a search through the woods. The mystery remained until Friday afternoon when William LAW who lived near Allen's accidentally came across the remains of a woman which proved to be those of Ann Porter. An inquest was held by Coroner Case anda verdict rendered death by exposure. (see original)
