The late John PALMER of Dorchester (West. Co.) was born at Point de Bute (West. Co.) on Oct. 11, 1788 and was the son of Gideon PALMER, a United Empire Loyalist who came from Rhode Island. On Oct. 26, 1814, in the days when magistrates conducted marriages, John Palmer was married by John Keillor, J.P. to Miss Elizabeth COLE of Sackville. By this union he had a number of children, eight of whom are still living, four sons and four daughters, viz. Capt. Ebenezer PALMER, Alpheus PALMER and Edward C. PALMER of Dorchester; C.R. PALMER, J.P., Moncton; Mrs. Wm LAVERS, Montreal; Mrs. Charles WRY, Salisbury; Mrs. Elizabeth HICKS, Sackville; and Mrs. Elijah AYER, Dorchester. His wife died May 15, 1876. The deceased was a veteran of the war of 1812. He served with his company at Fort Cumberland and afterwards did barracks duty at St. John. Mr. Palmer was 100 years old on Oct. 11, 1888, on which occasion an anniversary service was held in the Episcopal church at Dorchester.
