The friends of Capt. John WATSON were pained to learn by dispatch Friday 10th that he died that morn. at his home in Jacksonville, Oregon. The deceased was the s/o late Thomas WATSON and a grandson of the late Robert WATSON who came from Ayreshire, Scotland in 1770. Robert Watson was an able assistant to Rev. McCOLL in organizing the first Methodist Society and an efficient aid in building the first Methodist chapel on the St. Croix river. In early life Capt. Watson was in the foreign merchant service. At the outbreak of gold fever in California he embarked with cargo and passengers for the Golden Gate, which place he has continued the home of his adoption. His wife, the only d/o late Abner HILL of Milltown (Charlotte Co.) survives him. Mrs. David BROWN, St. Stephen, is the only surviving member of the family.
