We learn from family records that John PALMER, sergeant in the British army, came from England to Rowley, Mass. in 1639. His great grandson, Daniel PALMER moved with his family to New Brunswick from near Newburyport, New England 1763 and settled in Sheffield on the River St. John where he died 1776. His son Daniel came to Grand Lake near Douglas Harbor in 1786 where he died 11th Feb. 1813. It was here near the lake shore where David PALMER first saw the light 28th Feb. 1789. David Palmer's educational privileges were comparatively few, but his parents' well stocked book shelves supplied food for the intellect. While following the peaceful career of husbandry, he found leisure for the study of literature and mathematics and to the pen words of prose and verse. He departed this life June 1st, 1866. He for thirty years secretary of the Grand Lake Branch Bible Society. His poems were published in 1860 and favorably reviewed by the religious press. (see original)
