The St. Croix "Herald" of Wednesday gives the following account of the unfortunate affair by which young JEWETT lost his life in Calais, Maine last week: "The facts are that JEWETT came to town on Thursday night giving his name for some reason as William SHANNON. Friday night in one of the bye ways of the city he had a quarrel and according to his own account gave his assailant a flogging. Saturday night he was shot at, he said, by the same person and pursued ineffectually. Sunday night he armed himself with a loaded gun and was hunting in company with a young EYE for the unknown enemy when EYE shot him by mistake. He lived long enough to say to EYE that he attached no blame whatever to him as he knew that he was acting in good faith solely for his protection."
