George BLEWETT, a small boy, was drowned about ten o'clock this morn. He, in company with two other lads younger than himself, went down to the Gregory booms near Hilyard's mill, to look after some dulse which he had picked up earlier in the morn. In stepping from the booms to the boat he slipped and fell into the water which was only two or three feet deep at the time. No one saw the accident but the two little boys. One of them hastened to Blewett's house, which is only a short distance from the scene of the accident, and told Mrs. Blewett what had happened. She ran down to the booms and could see nothing but a hat floating on the water. She could do nothing herself but managed to attract James KENNEDY, Charles PALMER and James RIDER, who were working in the adjoining shipyard. They quickly came to the rescue and hauled the young fellow out with a pike pole. It is stated that he was in the water only five minutes, but Drs. Christie and McAlary, who were hastily summoned and worked with him for over an hour, were unable to resuscitate him. George Blewett, engineer of the tug "Lillie", father of the lad, was communicated with, but arrived only in time to see the remains carried into the house. The boy would have been nine years old on 11th of December next. Coroner Berryman was summoned but did not that an inquest will be held. The remains will be taken to Chatham Monday morn. for interment.
