Mrs. Ellen MORRISEY who lives on Winslow St., Carleton (St. John) is probably the oldest person in St. John today. She is 108 years old. Mrs. Morrisey is a native of County Cork, Ireland where she was married to Michael MORRISEY and had seven children, four of whom are now living. Her husband died 50 years ago. Mrs. Morrisey came to America in 1852 with four sons, one daughter and a grand daughter and settled in Carleton where she has lived ever since. She lived with one of her sons until about four years ago when he died. Since that time she has been living with her daughter Mrs. Julia MORRISEY. The latter is the eldest of Mrs. Morrisey's children and came to this country with her mother, having been married to a gentleman of her own name in Ireland. Her husband died before she came to America. Mrs. Julia Morrisey is about 80 years of age. Unlike her mother she is not blessed with the best of health to which she attributes her elderly appearance. She looks to be as old as her mother. Mrs. Ellen Morrisey has at present one son in Ireland, one in California, one in St. John and a daughter in Carleton. She has 32 grandchildren living and 15 great grandchildren. Last summer Mrs. Morrisey was frequently out for a walk on the streets and up to a few weeks ago she was able to walk around the house. Lately, however, she has been unable to leave her chair. She is troubled with rheumatism. She can at times converse intelligently on events that took place in her earlier days, but takes little interest in affairs of the hour. It affords her great pleasure to sing one of old songs to her friends and she is not averse to praise for her vocal efforts. All of her sisters and brothers are said to have lived to a good old age.
