The sheriff of Kings Co., Samuel N. FREEZE, appointed James W. SPROUL deputy and jailer in April 1868, when the late James COOKSON resigned that position and the deceased has remained continuously in office since that time. Mr. Sproul was also deputy registrar of deeds during the term of office of late registrar Geo. BARNES and also under Gilbert R. PUGSLEY. He was born at Smith's Creek in 1827. He leaves a widow, the eldest d/o late William DEMILL, one daughter, the wife of Fred M. ANDERSON, Salmon River (St. John) and three sons, Fred M. SPROUL, John H. SPROUL and Albert J. SPROUL. The remains will be interred Saturday 2 o'clock p.m. in the Hampton cemetery.
