The first citizen of Acadian descent to receive the honor of appointment as a member of the Legislative Council was Hon. A.D. RICHARD of Dorchester (West. Co.) He is the son of David RICHARD and Julie OUELETTE and was born at Memramcook Feb. 5th, 1850. After a partial course at St. Joseph's College, Memramcook, he went to Charlottetown, P.E.I. and attended St. Dunstan's College. Having early to decide the legal profession, he entered upon his studies with that end in view and concluded with a course at Boston University where on June 4th, 1879, he received the degree of L.L.B. On the 23rd of the same month he was called to the Bar of New Brunswick. In October of 1879 he was elected a member of the Municipal Council of Westmorland. On May 20th, 1882 he was appointed a member of the Legislative Council. He resides in Dorchester where he enjoys a large legal practice. On Oct. 1st, 1884, he was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie V. HOLT, Memramcook.
