Joseph MORRIS, who was widely known in the baseball circles as catcher for the Roses of St. John, met a horrible death in that city this morn. He and his brother were engaged painting A.W. Gray's house on Orange Street. At 9 o'clock everything was ready to begin work. Ladders were placed in front of the building on the third storey to act as staging and upon one of these Joseph was standing. It was secured by ropes attached to large hooks embedded on a board on the roof. With the weight pulling on it, the board slid along the gravelled roof and over the edge thereof carrying the ladder and man with it to the ground. A large number of people gathered around the dying man. He was picked up in an unconscious condition with a horrible gash on his head, ugly wounds and bruises from which the blood flowed profusely. Dr. Walker was at once summoned and ordered his removal to the hospital where he died at 12:30 o'clock. Death ensued from heamorrhage of the brain induced by a fractured skull. The deceased was a member of the Shamrock league, St. John, s/o Jonas MORRIS, 449 Main Street, 28 years of age and unmarried.
