James ROURKE is the son of the late W.H. ROURKE and was born at Musquash (St. John) June 27th, 1838. He received his education at the schools of the parish. In 1858 he removed to Hopewell (Albert Co.), where he remained till 1863, removing in the latter year to St. Martins, where he still resides. Mr. Rourke has been for many years engaged in the manufacture and shipment of lumber. He is interested in a number of vessels, and his firm still engaged to a small extent in the building of schooners. His saw mill is located on one of the most picturesquely beautiful spots to be found in the province. He was a member of the municipal council for fully a dozen years. He holds the rank of captain in the St. Martins Rifles. In 1866 he was nominated as one of the county candidates for a seat in the House of Assembly, but was unsuccessful. In 1890 he was again nominated and was elected. In Dominion politics he is a Liberal-Conservative. On March 16th, 1871, Mr. Rourke was united in marriage with Charlotte WISHART d/o Capt. WISHART. St. Martins.
