Fredericton (York Co.) July 30 - A young lad named Herbert McDONALD s/o Stephen McDONALD, lately in employ of A.F. RANDOLPH, flour merchant, was drowned by falling from a raft into the river in front of the Union Line wharf this afternoon. The lad was only six years old and had been accompanied, among others, by his brother Charles McDONALD, age 8 years, who, althoughunable to swim, herpically attempted to rescue him by jumping into the water. Charles was all but drowned himsled when a raft was swung around to him by one of his young comrades, by means of which he kept above water until assistance arrived. The body of Herbert was at length recovered.
