On Tuesday 22nd, James COLWELL, one of the oldest settlers on the Tobique (Victoria Co.) and a noted bear hunter, took his gun and dog and went into the woods near his home to hunt partridges. Not returning before night his family became uneasy and a search party was organized. It scoured the woods Tuesday night and all day Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday morn. his body was discovered watched over by his dog, his loaded gun by his side. Deceased had evidently when overcome by hunger and fatigue taken off his coat for the dog to lie on and calmly lain down to die as his features were quite composed and he was lying on his back with his hands crossed on his breasts. Deceased was 84 years old and father of Wm COLWELL and Benj. COLWELL, Tobique River.
