Houlton, Me. Oct. 4 -A sad accident occurred here Saturday morn. John TIERNEY, who lived on a farm a few miles out of town, went into the field to drive out some lambs when he was attacked by a three year old Jersey bull owned by himself, which was considered perfectly kind. A few minutes after Mr. Tierney went into the field, his wife sent her little nephew out to help his uncle. When he reached the field he saw that the bull had his uncle down and was savagely goring him. His cries brought Mr. Tierney's sons and hired man to the rescue who were working near. They drove off the bull and carried Mr. Tierney to the house. Dr. Nevens was called and found the man badly injure about the lower intestines and in the region of the heart. He lived until Monday when death put an end to his sufferings. Mr. Tierney was one of the most respectable and most wealthy men in Houlton. He leaves a wife and one son who is married and living with his parents. He also leaves a mother and one brother and four sisters, two of them who live in Stanley (York Co.), Mrs. Wm TURNBULL and Mrs. James McCARRON. Mr. Tierney was brought up on the Nashwaak. His funeral passed through this town this morn. on its way to the R.C. Church.
