Alexander CAMPBELL, a distinguished attorney of San Francisco bar, California, died at his home in Oakland on Friday, 17th Feb., at age 79 years. The deceased was born at the town of Saint Andrews (Charlotte Co.) N.B. where he was educated. At an early age he began the study of law, subsequently married and practiced at the bar for 18 years. In 1850, he went to Portland, Oregon where for a few years he practiced law with success. He then came to San Francisco. In 1860 he was elected to the bench of the Old 12th District Court. After resigning his judicial office in 1863, he resumed business in partnership with his eldest son, Henry C. CAMPBELL. In 1870 he removed to Oakland where his wife died two years ago. He leaves three daughters, one the wife of William C.B. deFREMERY; another, Mrs. JONES, a widow and the youngest, Miss Jessie CAMPBELL who acted as her father's housekeeper. His estate his said to be worth fully $300,000. This is left to the daughters and three sons, Henry C. CAMPBELL, Colin CAMPBELL and Donald Y. CAMPBELL, all of whom are attorneys-at-law. - San Francisco 'Chronicle' - The deceased was the son of the late Colin Campbell, Esq. of St. Andrews and cousin of Chas. CAMPBELL of St. John. He was married at St. Stephen to Miss MILLIGAN of that place.
