The death of John BRIDGES, popular boatman, took place yesterday. His whole time was spent about the wharves and the harbor and there are not a few who owe their lives to the gallant efforts he put forth on their behalf. While following his business he had many narrow escapes, one particularly noteworthy. It occurred about 25 years ago. He had put off to the relief of the ship "Pilgrim" in distress with Pilot WELSH and two others. His boat was swamped and out of the four he was the only one saved. His rescuers were Capt. TAYLOR, then a pilot and Pilot CLINE. Of an affable disposition he made and retained many friends. He left a wife and eight young children. (see also BRYDGES in Vol. 57)
