The police force lost a member Sunday afternoon by the death of Officer Joseph BARTON, a brother of Wm BARTON of the customs. Officer Barton has been sick at his home on Brussell Street for about four weeks. It was he who with Sgt. WEATHERHEAD was so badly beaten on Christmas eve. about seven years ago at Lower Cove by 15 or 20 roughs and it is stated that he never fully recovered from his injuries. He leaves one child and a sister. The funeral takes place tomorrow afternoon.
