1854-1914: in 1866 The Ledge was a farming and shipbuilding community with approximately 130 families: in 1871 "Ledge" had a population of 300: in 1898 The Ledge was a summer resort and a settlement with 1 post office, 2 stores, 2 churches and a population of 150.
