Located on the Bartibog River, 6.57 km WNW of Winston: Newcastle Parish, Northumberland County: settled by Scottish immigrants in 1812 and later Irish immigrants about 1822: in 1815 Alexander MacDonald constructed a stately Georgian-style home here which today is recognised as an historic building: PO 1857-1959: in 1866 Bartibog was a farming and lumbering community with about 87 families including 6 Corcoran, 7 McMahon and 7 Russell families: in 1871 the community and surrounding district had a population of 200: in 1898 Bartibog had 1 post office, 1 store, 1 hotel, 1 church and a population of 100.
