Located on W side of the St. John River at the mouth of the Shogomoc Stream, halfway between Temple and Pokiok: Canterbury Parish, York County: PO 1862-1888: in 1866 Lower Canterbury or Shogomoc was a farming community with approximately 32 families: in 1871 Lower Canterbury had a population of 100.
