Located at the confluence of the Southwest and Northwest Miramichi Rivers, 3.71 km S of Newcastle: Derby Parish, Northumberland County: named after Charles Deschamps-de-Boishébert-et-de-Raffetot (1727-1797), who established a settlement in 1758 opposite the island: also known as Fraser's Island, Russell's Island and Harley's Island for three men who operated shipyards here.
