Located near the mouth of the Richibucto River, 3.71 km S of Richibucto, on the road to Bouctouche: Richibucto Parish, Kent County: formerly called The Yard for a shipbuilding business established by John Jardine in 1825 who is credited with founding the settlement: renamed Kingston in 1850 : PO 1850-1901: in 1866 Kingston was a farming, fishing and lumbering village with approximately 80 resident families: in 1871 it had a population of 600: in 1898 Kingston had 1 post office, 12 stores, 3 hotels, 3 sawmills, 3 churches, and a population of 1,000: renamed Rexton in 1901: PO Rexton from 1901: in 1904 Rexton was a village on the Kent Northern Railway with 1 post office, 3 hotels, 1 sawmill, 3 churches and a population of 800: Rexton was incorporated as a village in 1966: Rexton was the birthplace of Andrew Bonar-Law (1858-1923), the only prime minister of Great Britain (1922) born in Canada.
