The following are the particulars of the sad accident which caused the death of James R. ROBINSON s/o John ROBINSON, Sr. of this town, as published in the Menominee Daily Herald of Feb. 16th: The sad intelligence was received here yesterday by telegram that James R. Robinson had been killed near Forence while in charge of a landing for the Kirby, Carpenter company at William Hall's camp. The deceased was well known in this city where he has resided for a number of years and leaves a wife and one child, a little girl six years of age. He was a prominent member of the Maccabee, having filled the office of commander of Menominee tent No. 2 and carried an insurance of $2,000 in the order. He was also a member of the Oddfellows lodge of this city. The remains arrived on the 10 o'clock train last night and were met at the depot by members of both orders. The particulars of the case, as related by Blesh Campbell, the scaler, who came down with the remains, are that upon the arrival of a load of logs, Robinson at once unfastened the chain and the topmost log, one end of which was slightly to one side, fell striking him on the top of the head, crushing the skull and causing instant death. Mr. Campbell stood close by, hallooed to look out, but too late to save his companion's life. The accident happened at 8 o'clock yesterday morn. The dead man was at once taken to the camp, two miles distant, and thence to Florence, 15 miles, where the remains were prepared for shipment. - The same paper of the 19th gives the following particulars of the funeral: The funeral of James R. Robinson was held Sunday from the Prebyterian Church. The remains were led from the house to the church by the Oddfellows and Maccabee orders, also the Daughters of Rebekah and Ladies of Maccabee societies. Rev. Lamb preached an appropriate sermon. The service of the Oddfellows was read at the grave by the chaplain.
