Campbellton, N.B. Sept. 14 - John FRASER of Cross Point, Bonaventure Co., P.Q., was buried today. The deceased, who was born in Scotland on the last day of the last month of the last century, came to Nova Scotia in 1820, was secretary of the relief fund at the time of the Miramichi fire in 1825. Afterwards he engaged in the export timber trade in Bathurst, from which place he removed to Cross Point in 1843. He was appointed in 1850 collector of customs for Bonaventure Co. and held the position for 25 years or until superannuated. The post office over which he presided since 1845 was the third established in the county. The late gentleman had been lieut. col. of the militia, was several times warden of his county and at the time of his death had been mayor of the township of Mann for 20 years. He was also justice of peace under appointment of Imperial government. In 1837 he was married to Elizabeth FERGUSON d/o late Robert FERGUSON at Athol House and leaves five sons and one daughter and 13 grandchildren.
