The monument at Bathurst was constructed of rock, wood and steel to represent the many workers of the Chaleur region. The project was sponsored by the Bathurst and District Labour Council, and the monument was dedicated on Labour Day, 4 September 1995 at a prominent location on Douglas Avenue. The annual ceremonies are an important community event that recalls the toll of death and injury in the workplaces of the region and promotes attention to the health and safety of all workers.
