The Bar of St. John - Hon. A.R. WETMORE, Attorney General - was born at Fredericton (York Co.) 16th Aug. 1820. He is lineally descended from Thomas WHITMORE (or WETMORE) who came from the West of England to Boston in 1635, a few years after the first settlement of the Colony of Massachusetts. When the revoluntionary troubles broke out, the branch of the WETMORE family from whom (he) is descended remained faithful to the Crown, and at the close of the War removed to this Province. His grandfather, Hon. Thomas WETMORE was a member of the Bar of New Brunswick and appointed Attorney General in 1809, an office which he continued to hold until his death in 1828. His son George L. WETMORE, father of the present Attorney General, was also a member of the Bar of this Province, but died suddenly in 1821. The mother of our Attorney General was a daughter of Andrew RAINSFORD, Esq., Receiver General of this Province. He received his education at Fredericton. In 1836 he entered as a student in the office of Hon. E.B. CHANDLER at Dorchester where he remained for three years ... and completed his studies in the office of George Jarvis DIBBLEE, Esq. He was admitted an Attorney in Oct. 1841 and called to the Bar two years afterward. For some years after his admission, he practiced Law at Oromocto. (see original)
