Mrs. BOWMAN, whose funeral takes place today, was born in Cumberland, N.S. in 1794. She came to this city with her parents when five years old and lived to see the small village grow into a city. She was an eye witness to the many destructive fires which this city has been subject to. She was married in 1822 to John BOWMAN of Devonshire, England in the homestead which now stands on Elliot Row, which at that time was the only house in the vicinity. Her husband died in 1833, leaving his widow with four children, two sons and two daughters. The oldest daughter married Deputy Sheriff RANKIN of this city. The other daughter married George LAWSON who went to California about 22 years ago and died there nine years ago. The oldest son went to Minneapolis, Minnesota, 30 years ago and has become quite wealthy in land. The youngest son remained at home and is one of the firm of Bowman & Lelacheur, builders.
